The night in winter can hold many meanings, from the ominous to the comforting. Christina Rossetti’s famed poem In the bleak midwinter appears in the traditional setting by Harold Darke and a new version by William Averitt. Cecilia McDowall’s cantata A Winter’s Night incorporates traditional carols into a fun but modern context. And we celebrate two local composers with large-scale works: Abraham Kaplan’s Eight Days of Chanukah and Ancient Souls by Composer-in-Residence Karen P. Thomas.
